Major Activities in Fiscal 2011/3
• Acquisition of mining usufruct right of a new copper mine in Chile (Mirador).
• First shipment of copper concentrates from Minera Esperanza
Marubeni's Equity Metal (Capacity) : increased to 125 kilo tons from 65 kilo tons (January 2011~).
• Decision to expand Lake Vermont Coal Mine in Australia (Capacity to be doubled by 2013).

Recent Topics
Acquire Interests in Australia's Codrilla Deposit (Announced on May 16, 2011)
• Contract to acquire a 7% interest in the Codrilla Deposit from Macarthur Coal Limited and CITIC Resources Holdings Limited.
• This project contributes to the raw material stability procurement of each blast furnace company.
Marubeni's equity coal (capacity): To be increased to 7.7 million tons from 5.8 million tons (including the portion from expansion of Lake Vermont projected in 2013).

Participation in the Niobrara Shale Oil Project (Announced in April 2011)
• Marubeni has entered into an agreement with Marathon Oil Corporation, a U.S. major oil and natural gas company to acquire 30% working interest in the Denver Julesburg Basin Niobrara shale oil play for approx. US$270 million, covering 180 thousand net acres of oil and gas leases pertaining to this deal located in Colorado and Wyoming.
