Marubeni Scholarship Foundation, Inc. held its 19th Annual Scholars Night on Dec. 5, 2008 in Makati City. The Annual Scholars’ Night gave the scholars, who all come from underprivileged social backgrounds, the opportunity to express their appreciation to MSFI for giving them a very precious gift - education.
Among them, Angelo Dino Bernardo said that he feels very fortunate and blessed to have been chosen as a Marubeni scholar that allowed him to finish secondary school with technical training. Emmanuel Mago, who is now a licensed veterinarian, compared himself to a seed that MSFI planted which now became a productive tree.
The other scholars were also very thankful that MSFI helped them acquire skills and training so they were able to find good jobs and are now supporting their families financially. Scholars of Don Bosco Tondo, MSFI's first beneficiary school, caught everyone's attention by wearing shirts with big prints of "Marubeni scholar ako (I am a Marubeni scholar)" as if saying that they were very proud to be Marubeni scholars.
Listening to the heartwarming stories and seeing the grateful smiles of these scholars made me feel very fortunate to be part of an organization that gives hope to these young people. MSFI is supporting 83 scholars in 14 different technical and vocational institutions all over the Philippines in 2008. And hopefully, these 83 scholars will attend future Annual Scholars' Nights to tell us their respective success stories.
